About Rina Rai
Partner
Rina Rai was born in Birmingham, England and was raised in central California. She attended the University of California at Riverside where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies in 1993 as a Dean’s List Recipient. Ms. Rai attended Pepperdine University School of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree in 1996. While attending Pepperdine, she also obtained a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the nationally recognized program at Pepperdine University School of Law where she sharpened her skills in the areas of mediation, arbitration, and negotiation. Ms. Rai is admitted to practice in Arizona and California and is experienced in the areas of construction defect, insurance defense, and civil litigation.
Over the past 18 years, Ms. Rai has devoted a significant portion of her practice in the areas of construction defect litigation and general liability in both California and Arizona. Ms. Rai has represented hundreds of contractors in complex litigation cases and has successfully taken cases to trial and negotiated settlements and dismissals for many of her clients. Ms. Rai is a member of the, California State Bar, Idaho State Bar, the State Bar of Arizona, the Maricopa County Bar Association, the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, and the Construction Section of the Arizona State Bar. She is the past chair of Arizona State Bar’s Construction Section and also co-authored The Arizona Construction Law Manual, published by the State Bar of Arizona. Ms. Rai continues to publish and speak on issues related to general liability and construction claims.
About Jack G. Barone
Partner
Jack Barone received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Park College, Parkville, Missouri, where he graduated with distinction. Mr. Barone received his Juris Doctor degree in 1999 from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law, where he completed a concentration in Financial Transactions and achieved an Academic Certificate in Taxation Law. While in law school, he served as Publications Editor of the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review and as a member of the Moot Court Board. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Barone completed a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. This career provided a broad background, including experience in finance, including securities, and computer technology.
Mr. Barone’s practice is comprised of business transactions and civil litigation, including insurance defense and construction defect litigation. Mr. Barone is a member of the Arizona, and Maricopa County Bar Associations and the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, and is admitted to practice in all Arizona Courts as well as the United States District Court.
About Shannon G. Huff

Mrs. Huff assists clients in a broad range of litigation matters, ranging from general business disputes to insurance defense. Mrs. Huff’s experience encompasses all phases of litigation, from initial pleadings through discovery, depositions, motion practice, arbitrations, negotiating appropriate settlements, and trial preparation. Mrs. Huff has also handled appellate work in the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One and Division Two. Mrs. Huff is admitted to practice law in Idaho, the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts, District of Idaho, Washington, all Arizona State Courts as well as the United States District Court, District of Arizona.

About Thomas Duer
Partner
Tom Duer joined Rai & Barone, P.C. as an associate in 2012 and focuses his practice primarily in the areas of construction defect litigation, products liability litigation and general civil litigation. Mr. Duer graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from the College of Public Programs at Arizona State University. Mr. Duer received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2008. In law school, Mr. Duer worked as a research assistant for Professor Colleen Medill researching various issues in ERISA Law.
Prior to joining Rai & Barone, Mr. Duer practiced in the areas of insurance coverage, real property litigation, title insurance and escrow. Mr. Duer is involved in all aspects of the litigation process, including developing effective case strategies, taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing pre-trial motions, and negotiating settlements and settlement agreements. He is active member of the State Bar of Arizona as well as a current board member of the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Duer is admitted to practice law in Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington, as well as United States District Court.
About Brock Kaminski
Associate
Brock D. Kaminski is a commercial litigator, with experience in the trial, appellate and supreme courts of both the State of Arizona and the United States. With a focus on insurance defense matters, Mr. Kaminski’s practice revolves around the successful navigation of complex matters through traditional litigation, compulsory arbitration and private mediation. In a recent case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Rina Rai and Mr. Kaminski prevailed on an appeal from a plaintiff seeking to overturn a complete defense jury verdict obtained by Rai & Barone in a multi-million dollar products liability action. Mr. Kaminski’s article, “Evolution of Implied Warranty in Arizona”, was published in the March 2020 edition of the Maricopa County Bar Association’s monthly newspaper, and he also served as an editor for a treatise on commercial leasing in Arizona. Joint Tenancies: Property Leasing in Cannabis Commerce (American Bar Association, State and Local Government Section, 2018).
Mr. Kaminski received his Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. During law school, Mr. Kaminski completed consecutive internships under the Honorable Jeffrey N. Cole, Magistrate Judge, and the Honorable Virginia M. Kendall in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. There, he researched, analyzed, and drafted opinions regarding complex issues of federal law. Subsequently, he worked as an Extern for the City of Chicago Department of Law’s Federal Civil Rights Litigation Division where he defended police officers in both state and federal civil rights lawsuits.
About Marcus A. McGillivray

BMarcus A. McGillivray focuses primarily in general civil litigation, construction defect, and insurance defense. Mr. McGillivray started as a criminal defense attorney, representing individuals with mental health vulnerabilities who were subject to the justice system. He earned his law degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he received the Cali Award of Excellence for his study of White-Collar Criminal Law.
During law school, Mr. McGillivray served as a law clerk for a Phoenix criminal defense firm, where he briefly worked as an associate after graduation. He also clerked for a Capital Defense team in Pinal County, Arizona, defending clients in high-profile cases who faced the death penalty. Additionally, Mr. McGillivray interned for the Arizona Governor’s Regulatory Review Counsel, assisting state agencies with drafting new regulations and policy and improving the efficiency of their existing rules.
Mr. McGillivray graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Grand Canyon University. He is currently an active member of the Arizona State Bar, and a member of the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel. In his spare time, Mr. McGillivray enjoys camping, fishing, and hiking.
About Quinton Gregory

Quinton S. Gregory joined Rai & Barone after serving a term as clerk to the Honorable Lawrence F. Winthrop and Maria Elena Cruz at the Arizona Court of Appeals. While under the mentorship of Judges Winthrop and Cruz, Mr. Gregory drafted decisions and internal memoranda in civil, criminal, family, and juvenile cases, along with matters originating in Arizona’s administrative courts.
Mr. Gregory graduated from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU in 2018, where he served as an Associate Editor of Jurimetrics: The Journal of Law, Science, and Technology. As a second-year law student, he competed in the National Appellate Advocacy Competition, where he briefed and argued the administrative issue of deference to Department of Education guidance documents before panels of judges and attorneys in Washington, D.C. Mr. Gregory externed at the Federal District Court, District of Arizona, with the Honorable Douglas L. Rayes; at a small business law firm in Tempe; and at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, where he worked as the chief clerk of the Research Bureau. He also served as Vice President of Finance of his law school’s Student Bar Association. Mr. Gregory received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English Literature with a minor in German language from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was born and raised.
About Teague Lashnits

Teague Lashnits received his B.A. in Communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver. Mr. Lashnits’ practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation and real estate, including general liability insurance defense, personal injury, construction defect, commercial and business disputes, and various real estate matters. Mr. Lashnits is licensed to practice in Colorado and Arizona state and federal courts. Mr. Lashnits was named a Colorado Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2010-2011 and a Southwest Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2013-2016.
About Catherine Cocchiara
Associate
Catherine Cocchiara joined Rai & Baron in February 2020. She is a licensed attorney in both Arizona and Louisiana. Her diverse legal experience ranges from family law litigation to commercial contract review and negotiation. Catherine received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management in 2010. In 2013, she graduated from the Paul M. Hebert College of Law at LSU. The early part of her career was spent at a boutique family law firm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where her primary focus was property negotiations. She was featured in an attorney spotlight article in the Baton Rouge Bar Magazine during her first year of practice. Upon passing the Arizona Bar in 2015, Catherine transitioned into a transactional focused career at a law company based in Tempe, Arizona. There, she drafted and negotiated many different types of commercial contracts for a wide variety of industries. Her work included both legal and business risk analysis and collaboration with other attorneys and procurement/business personnel across the world, including in those in the US, UK, Canada, India, and Australia. She is a member of the Arizona State Bar and enjoys giving back to the community through her work in the Junior League of Phoenix.
About Andrea Logue

Andrea Logue joined Rai & Barone in 2020. Andie was admitted to the Arizona Bar in 2017, and has gained experience as an associate with both Tucson and Phoenix insurance defense firms, where she represented clients facing medical and legal malpractice claims, including representing clients before the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners, and Arizona State Board of Nursing. In addition, Andie worked as an assistant professor at the University of Arizona College of Public Health. Andie practices mainly in the area of civil litigation, including general liability, personal injury, construction defect, and insurance defense.
While pursuing her J.D. and M.P.H., Andie worked as a legal intern for the Arizona State House of Representatives, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Office of the General Counsel. She gained further experience as a clerk for the Arizona Attorney General’s Education and Health Section, and as a graduate research assistant for the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. During law school, Andie served as the editor in chief for the Arizona Journal for Environmental Law and Policy, was board member at large for the Student Health Law Organization, a member of the Law Women’s Association, and served as secretary for the Latino Law Students Association. Andie earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Gonzaga University in 2010.
About Samantha Egan

Samantha Egan was an insurance agent prior to graduating from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 2018. During law school, Ms. Egan began working as a law clerk in the ERISA and Employee Benefits area. She provided consultation relating to retirement and welfare benefit plans and state retirement funds; assists with disclosure compliance, fiduciary responsibility, qualification, and compliance under tax and labor law; and advises benefit plans on benefit claims and appeals. Ms. Egan spent three years as a law clerk and was promoted to Associate Attorney after passing the bar in 2019.
In 2020, Ms. Egan began serving in the public health sector where she acted as the Legal and Regulatory Program Administrator for the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). DDD is a Managed Care Organization (MCO) and a Division within the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). At DDD, Ms. Egan performed oversight and compliance. She also supervised the Office of Administrative Review (OAR), which oversaw all member appeals, claim disputes, and eligibility decisions for the Division’s 45,000 plus members.
Ms. Egan then returned to the private sector in 2021 when she joined Rai & Barone PC as an Associate Attorney. She handles matters involving business transactions, general liability, construction defect, and commercial litigation.
